Timothy D. Brewerton, MD, DFAPA, FAED, DFAACAP

Timothy D. Brewerton, MD, DFAPA, FAED, DFAACAP is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He is triple board certified in general, child/adolescent and forensic psychiatry, Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and Founding Fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders. He has authored >120 articles/chapters and edited the book, Clinical Handbook of Eating Disorders: An Integrated Approach. He serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Eating Disorders, Eating Disorders, and Current Food and Nutrition Science. Steven J. Karp, DO, FACN

Steven J. Karp is the Chief Medical Officer of Rosewood Centers for Eating Disorders. Triple Board certified in Adult, Addiction and Geriatric Psychiatry, Dr. Karp brings twenty years experience treating psychiatric and addictive disorders to the eating disorder field. Dr. Karp was Medical Director for the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania where his influential project discontinued the use of physical restraints as it determined restraints could replicate previous trauma, which would impede recovery. Dr. Karp graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed residency at Norristown State Hospital, Norristown, Pennsylvania. Dr. Karp combines his psychiatric skills, psychoanalytic knowledge, and motivational interviewing to support people towards lasting change. As an expert in the treatment of eating disorders, Dr. Karp speaks regularly at national and regional conferences.

Therese Killeen, PhD, APRN, BC

Therese Killeen, PhD, APRN, BC is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science in the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Killeen has worked in the addiction and co-occurring disorder field for over 20 years as a clinician, trainer/supervisor and researcher. Dr. Killeen has a long history of serving as Principal and Co-investigator on numerous pharmacotherapy and behavioral studies for substance use and comorbid disorders.  She is a former National Institute of Nursing Research Fellow and American Nurses’ Association Research Scholar. Dr. Killeen has presented both nationally and internationally in the area of addiction and co-morbidity, specifically addiction, trauma and PTSD and has numerous publications in the field.  Dr. Killeen is currently a co-investigator and dissemination expert for the Southern Consortium Node of the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network (CTN), a large national multi-site center charged with bridging the gap between research and clinical practice in front line community treatment programs.  She has conducted numerous regional and national trainings in evidence-based treatments with expertise in pharmacotherapy and  psychosocial interventions, including Motivational Interviewing, Contingency Management, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Exposure Therapy for concurrent PTSD and SUD.  She has been a member of the National Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers since 2003.

Libby Neal, MA, LPC

Libby Neal, MA, LPC is the Executive Clinical Director of Training & Education at Rosewood Center for Eating Disorders. As Director of Treatment Services for a year and a half, Libby was an integral part of the growth and development of Rosewoods adolescent and adult clinical departments. In furthering Rosewoods well established center of excellence, Libby’s new role finds her writing curriculum, establishing research projects and creating The Rosewood Institute for Eating Disorder Training. She earned her Master’s Degree in Transpersonal Psychology, with a specialization in Art Therapy, from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Libby completed Child and Adolescent Psychodynamic Psychotherapy training from the Denver Institute of Psychoanalysis and University of Colorado Health Sciences Psychiatric Department. Libby combines evidence based practices of EMDR and DBT to enhance her use of mindfulness skills, art therapy, and psychodynamic theories by empowering people toward lasting positive change. Libby brings twenty years of experience working with Eating Disorders, severe attachment issues, complex traumas, family systems and chronic mental illnesses. Along with university teaching experience and multiple conference presentations, Libby was selected to participate in a SAMHSA National Child Traumatic Stress Network Grant from 2002-2004. Libby is clinical consultant for Beauty Mark, a documentary film that chronicles a female elite athletes’ struggle with anorexia nervosa.  Libby is a member of the American Art Therapy and Arizona Art Therapy Association. In her free time, Libby can be found creating landscape paintings or playing with her two dogs.

Brad Lamm, BR-I, CAI

Brad Lamm, BR-I, CAI is an author, teacher and interventionist best known for helping people make life-enhancing change on The Dr. OZ Show and The Today Show. Brad is Founder and CEO of Intervention Specialists, a crisis intervention agency. He has popularized his “Invitational Intervention” whereby a resistant loved one accepts an offer of assistance after being invited to their own intervention.
In 2008 Brad founded Change Institute to help inform and inspire better, lighter lives through weight loss and smoking cessation programs. His “Blueprint to Quit: Smoking” launched at more than 4300 Walmart locations in November 2011. Change Institute sponsors WORLD INTERVENTION DAY the third Thursday each December.
Brad’s work is based on the belief that we are constantly changing, and remarkably resilient. He believes family and friends are uniquely poise to offer support, accountability and structure from a beginning point of love and honesty – no matter how broken-down or discouraged they may feel.
In recovery from his own eating disorder, in addition to alcohol, meth and nicotine, Brad’s teaching style is first-person, no-nonsense and accessible. Previously a network affiliate news anchor, his TV work today helps viewers make lifestyle interventions in their own lives, and the lives of their loved ones.
He is a Creator & Producer of the eight-part docu-series “Addicted to Food” on OWN (The Oprah Winfrey Network) and serves on the Board of Dr. Oz’s HealthCorps. Brad speaks worldwide in association with The Rosewood Institute, highlighting intervention approaches to helping those suffering from eating disorders.

Jessica Hyde-Christensen, MM, MT-BC

Jessica Hyde-Christensen is a primary therapist and music therapist for Rosewood Centers for Eating Disorders. As a board certified music therapist, Jessica has experience with a variety of populations including Eating Disorders, special education children, and on hospital units serving Alzheimer’s, geriatrics, and neonatal babies. Jessica completed undergraduate work at Utah State University and a master’s degree at Arizona State University, where she taught and supervised music therapy students. Being an accomplished musician and singer allows Jessica special insight for her clients to translate their trauma into something usable for a meaningful recovery.

 

Jennifer Lorey, LCSW

Jennifer Lorey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, earning her master’s degree from New York University. Jennifer devoted her early career to addicted adolescents and adults in New York City, at The Phoenix House Foundation, The Caron Foundation, and the New York Recovery Center with Road Recovery. Moving to Florida, Jennifer found herself working as a primary and family therapist at the Caron Renaissance in Boca Raton. Jennifer currently works as the clinical director at The Florida House Experience. Jennifer is actively working on her certification as an eating disorder specialist (CEDS) and is a member of international association of eating disorder professionals (iaedp). Jennifer believes in creating a trusting and understanding relationship with patients and families as the foundation for confronting the relevant issues that increase the possibility for change.

Bryan Bixler, MA

Bryan Bixler is a master’s level ecologist who trained at Universities in Scotland, Georgia and California. Bryan has many interests in diverse species ranging from ants to African elephants but he found his true passion was working for conservation of wild habitats and preservation of species diversity. Bryan’s kind demeanor in combination with his academic interests found him working as a research scientist and education specialist at institutions such as Scripps, San Diego Wild Animal Park and the University of Georgia. Bryan’s adult life, however, has been riddled by twenty years of chronic anorexia that progressed to such severity that he nearly lost his life. Bryan’s recovery began two years ago when he entered long term treatment and learned an eating disorder is not just a medical issue but included underlying emotional issues that drove the disease. Bryan’s story of recovery is filled with financial and physical tragedy that is also inspirational to those who wonder if they or their loved one can recover from an eating disorder.

Gary A. Grahl, LPC

Gary A. Grahl is a Licensed Professional Counselor who works as a School Counselor in the state of Wisconson. Gary’s personal experience with an eating disorder that developed as a high school star athlete informs his book of recovery, Skinny Boy.  Gary has been featured on television shows such as Jenny Jones, Extra, BBC, The Early Show and in articles such as The New York Times, Men’s Health, Women’s World, New York Newsday, Chicago Sun Times, and Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel. Gary is a resource for National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD), a non-profit that serves families and individuals with eating disorders. When he is not advocating for adolescents as a high school counselor, Gary and his wife Jenna are happily busy raising their three children in Wisconsin.

Hunter Taylor, MS, LCP 

Hunter Taylor, MS, LCP is the Clinical Director of Rosewood’s adult services. Hunter brings 30 years of experience working in eating disorders, addictions, psycho-education and mental health management to Rosewood. Believing the modality of psychodrama is an important component of recovery, Hunter regularly conducts attends professional trainings and conducts workshops for ONSITE in Tennessee. Hunter holds a Master’s of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Fort Hays State University, in Fort Hayes, Kansas.

 

Dena L. Cabrera, Psy.D., CEDS

Dr. Dena Cabrera is clinical director of adolescent services at Rosewood Centers for Eating Disorders. Dr. Cabrera has a particular interests and specialized training in neuropsychological and psychological assessment, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, as well as the cognitive-behavioral treatment of patients with neuro-developmental disorders, behavioral problems, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. With many years in the field, Dr. Cabrera presents on eating disorder prevention and treatment at the national and international level.

 

 

 

Susan M. Baker, MA, MFT, SEP

Susan M. Baker is in private practice in Camarillo, CA. Certified in Somatic Experiencing and Gestalt therapy, Susan combines body-mind centered techniques to resolve clients distress related to trauma, eating disorders, medical conditions and self-destructive behaviors. She teaches on the graduate faculty at Pepperdine University. As a clinical supervisor, she provides training in group process, Gestalt therapy, personality issues and trauma.

 

Susan L. Richter, MA, MFT, CEDS, SEP

Susan L. Richter is in private practice in Camarillo, CA. A Certified Eating Disorders Specialist who is also trained in Somatic Experiencing and EMDR, Susan provides treatment to those with eating disorders, trauma, anxiety and depression. Susan is an IAEDP approved supervisor and Clinical Director of New Beginnings Counseling Center’s intern training program. Susan holds the position of Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University, where she teaches group psychotherapy.

 

 

Justine J. Reel, PhD, LPC, CC-AASP

Justine J. Reel is an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Utah. She served as the Exercise Education Director and Primary Therapist for an eating disorder treatment facility in Salt Lake City and has treated eating disorder clients in in-patient, residential, partial, intensive outpatient and outpatient settings. Most currently in an outpatient private practice setting, she provides counseling and sport psychology consulting for Olympic winter sport athletes, over-exercisers and student-athletes as a member of the University of Utah Student-Athlete Wellness Team.

Dr. Reel authored the Hidden Faces of Eating Disorders and Body Image, has published over 60 papers and delivered over 200 presentations about body image and eating disorders and has a second book, Eating Disorders: Causes, Treatment and Prevention, slated for publication in 2012. To bring greater awareness to the issue of exercise in eating disorder treatment, she founded the NEDA exercise special interest group. She recently served as the Professional Standards Division Head on the Association of Applied Sport Psychology Executive Board.

She earned her Ph.D. and Master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is from Cary, North Carolina. She has been appointed to the Journal of Clinical Sport Psychology, Journal of Sport Psychology in Action, and Eating Disorders: Prevention and Treatment editorial boards and is a section editor for the Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal. She is a founding board member and former Vice-President of the Utah Chapter for the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.

Kitty Westin, M.A., L.P.

Kitty Westin is the founder of the Anna Westin Foundation which closed in 2008 and transferred its assets to The Emily Program Foundation. Kitty is the current president of The Emily Program Foundation which aims to eliminate eating disorders through advocacy and education. Kitty is the past president and serves on the Board of the Eating Disorders Coalition for Research, Policy & Action and she has been an active member of several Academy for Eating Disorders committees including serving as co-chair of the Advocacy Committee.

Kitty became an activist after her daughter, Anna Westin, died of an eating disorder in 2000. She has spoken to millions of people across the globe about the devastating effects of eating disorders through public appearances and the media. She has been honored for her work and has received advocacy awards from the Eating Disorders Coalition, The Academy for Eating Disorders, the National Eating Disorders Association and the Park Nicollet Foundation.
